Holy Family University will present its annual Corporate Leadership Award to Tierney President and Chief Executive Officer Mary Stengel Austen at its Annual Scholarship Ball on May 5, 2011. Supporters of the Annual Scholarship Ball have helped raise more than $3.5 million since its inception, directly benefiting more than 1,400 students and often making the financial difference that enables them to stay in school.
University President Sister Francesca Onley, CSFN, Ph.D., will bestow these corporate awards at the event benefiting student financial aid at the Sheraton Society Hill Hotel in Philadelphia. The Corporate Leadership Award honors a member of the business community who has demonstrated the values of family, respect, responsibility, service, and integrity as evidenced through a distinguished career.
Austen co-founded the Tierney Group, a predecessor agency of Tierney, in 1989. Under her leadership, the company has won regional and national corporate awards for its community involvement and pro bono programs.
Prominent among the corporate awards she has received, Austen was awarded the 2010 Greater Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Paradigm Award, the Chamber’s highest accolade for a woman in business. She has been widely recognized for her professional leadership and community involvement with a Stevie Award for Women in Business, The Pennsylvania League of Women Voters’ Civic Leadership Award, the American Heart Association’s Woman of Heart Award, and the Philadelphia Business Journal’s Woman of Distinction Award, among others. Additionally, Austen lends her expertise to a number of non-profit boards, including Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, and Steppingstone Scholars Inc. She was recently named chair of the 2011 Campaign for the United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware.
