Plaques and Trophies Sought for Rotary Music Festival

Somewhere, in homes throughout St. Thomas-Elgin, are plaques and trophies the Rotary Music Festival needs back for this year's festival.

Elaine Catchpole, a spokeswoman for the festival committee, said organizers need the hardware returned so it can be fitted with new plates for the winners at this year's festival. Individuals who have trophies or plaques are asked to call 519-637-3528.

"I really don't know how many plaques are out there," Catchpole said. "Some of them are for choirs and some of them are for groups." "Those kinds of plaques like choir and team plaques, where there are a number of people to put on them and the plaque keeps being awarded year after year." The Rotary Music Festival opens Feb. 27.

"We have the schedule just about done as to where the major sections will take place like the piano, strings and voice," Catchpole said. While not all the locations are confirmed, Fellowship Baptist Church on Elm Street will be a new venue this year for school choirs. "They've got a big auditorium so we're going to put school choirs in there," Catchpole advised.

Arthur Voaden Secondary School, which the festival found too difficult to move students in and out of quickly, is not being used this year. Replacing it will be the Salvation Army Citadel and St. Thomas Christian Church. "We also have to consider noise levels, buses and people movement for those groups."
