Hundreds of students from Kentucky and Tennessee will compete in Western Kentucky University's annual History Contest this week, trying to win scholarships and other recognition awards for their knowledge of American and world history.
The university says more than 600 middle and high school students are expected to take part in the event on Friday.
The contest includes objective and essay exams.
First-place winners in senior high competitions will receive $1,000 scholarships for their first year of study at Western, while first-place in the junior high division will earn a $500 scholarship. Engraved plaques, silver and bronze medals and certificates of achievement will also be awarded.
