South African champion swimmer Cameron van der Burgh has lost half his medals and trophies to thieves who burgled his parent's Pretoria home, it was reported on Saturday.
Van der Burgh, who will represent South Africa at the London Olympics, told the Saturday Star that the medals and trophies were "irreplaceable" as they had been won in several countries.
The robbers broke into the house on Friday while Van der Burgh was at swimming practice and his mother was shopping for his 24th birthday party that evening.
The breaststroke swimmer is the current world record holder in the 25m and 50m short course events as well as the 50m long course.
"I am really glad that nobody got hurt though, because that is the most important thing," Van der Burgh told the newspaper.
Van der Burgh said he would contact the international swimming body to see if it was possible to replace stolen medals.
On Tuesday the swimmer leaves for a training camp in Europe to prepare for the Olympics.
"Before the incident I was 100 per cent focused on the upcoming games. Now I have lost some of that focus," he was quoted as saying.

Two Trophies, Two Sets of Medals ... but Premier League has Only One Winner
The Premier League has ordered winners’ medals for both Roberto Mancini and Sir Alex Ferguson – but only one boss will ever see theirs.
As part of the preparations for Sunday’s finale, when either City or United will be crowned champions, the Premier League have commissioned two sets of nine-carat gold custom medals, only one of which will ever be used. They are also planning ticker-tape presentation ceremonies at the Etihad Stadium, where City play QPR, and the Stadium of Light, where United face Sunderland.
Identical podiums and firework displays will be dispatched to Manchester and Sunderland in an operation the Premier League have revealed will take ‘military precision’ to pull off. But they are keeping the rest of their plans top secret.
There will a trophy at the Etihad Stadium and the Stadium of Light – either the Champions Trophy, currently in the care of United, or a replica owned by sponsors Barclays – but the league are remaining tight-lipped over where the real trophy will be.
They are also keeping the identity of the two presentations parties, which will include a representative from the Premier League and Barclays, under wraps until the weekend.
“The presentations parties are to be confirmed and the plans are always subject to change,” said a spokesman. “We’ve been planning for this for a while and we will have teams at both stadiums on Sunday. It has been planned with military precision.”
City head into the final-day fixtures as the bookies’ favorites to lift the title. They need only to match United’s result against Sunderland when they host relegation-threatened QPR, thanks to their superior goal difference of +8. The destination of the Premier League has been decided on the last day five times since its inception in 1992.
United have been involved on each occasion, winning three times and losing out twice. If City match United’s result on Sunday, it will be the first time the Premier League has been decided on goal difference.

Tottenham Trophy Success Overdue According to Redknapp
Harry Redknapp has challenged his Tottenham stars to prove they deserve to be ranked alongside the club's legends by winning the FA Cup. Redknapp's side have earned flattering comparisons to some of the great Spurs sides, including the 1991 FA Cup winners and the 1961 double-winning team. An 11-match unbeaten run at the end of 2011 featured some eye-catching play that saw Spurs labelled the most entertaining team in the country.
However, Redknapp believes all that praise would quickly be forgotten if Spurs fail to fulfill their potential. To earn their place in the Tottenham history books along the likes of Gary Lineker, Paul Gascoigne, Danny Blanchflower and Cliff Jones, Redknapp insists they must win silverware and that means beating Chelsea in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final, then winning the trophy itself.
"This is a great opportunity for us to go all the way this year," Redknapp said on Friday. "On our day we can beat Chelsea. We can beat anyone. There is not a lot between the two teams, but they have the medals to show for it.They have been there and done it all in the last few years. Tottenham is a club that have won two trophies since 1991 and they were both League Cups, so it's about time Tottenham won another trophy."
If Tottenham can beat Chelsea at Wembley on Sunday, Redknapp believes it will prove the potential is there for his club to continue to better their west London rivals, as long as the board are prepared to keep investing in new signings.
"If we want Champions League football again we need to improve the squad again in the summer. You have to keep improving because everyone else around us will," Redknapp said. "If you want to start winning championships then you really have to push on and raise the bar because that's the only way you are going to do it."

IOC to Honor the Gold Medal-Winning Surfing Team
When it comes time to hand out the contest hardware for the DaKine ISA World Junior Surfing Championship Presented by Billabong, the Gold Medal-winning team is going to have more than medals to take home. The Gold Medal Team will be receiving the IOC President's Trophy, from the International Olympic Committee and its president, Jacques Rogge.
"The IOC Trophy is something very special and very unique; no other surfing organization in the world has a specific trophy from the IOC," said Fernando Aguerre, the President of the ISA. "This has great significance both for this event and the future of surfing as we work toward its involvement in the Olympic Games."
GDE Bertoni, a trophy and medal manufacturer in Milan, Italy designed the nine-inch trophy. The company also produced two of the most famous soccer trophies: the FIFA World Cup Trophy and the UEFA Cup trophy.
"This World Championship - organized under the auspices of the International Surfing Association (ISA) - will certainly serve as a stepping stone for all of these young surfers to prepare themselves for further experience at higher levels and become future sporting models for the next generation," wrote IOC President Rogge, in the letter accompanying the trophy. "Good luck to all the competitors!"
Over 400 athletes and team supporters from 30 nations are making the trip to Playa Venao to participate in the largest and most important under-18 surfing competition in the world. The overall team title will be determined by a points system based on how the athletes from the respective nations place within their divisions. Australia has won six of the last nine years, while Peru won the Team Gold Medal in 2011.
The DaKine ISA World Junior Surfing Championship Presented by Billabong begins on April 14 with the traditional ISA Opening Ceremony, which includes a Parade of Nations and the Sands of the World Ceremony. Competition will begin on the morning of the 15th.
The Opening Ceremony and the competition can be viewed live at www.dakineisawjsc.com/live.

Girls Make It Four Trophies for Trinity
The pupils of Trinity Catholic School (Aspley) won their fourth 5-a-side trophy of the season at Harvey Hadden. Trinity teams have already won the U12 Girls and U16 Girls' Indoor 5-a-sides and the U13 Boys' Outdoor 5-a-sides, organized by Nottingham Schools' Football Association.
Along with five other teams from City Secondary Schools, Trinity had qualified for the final of the NSFA U14 Girls' Indoor 5-a-side competition from preliminary rounds.
They dominated the league-based competition winning four of the five matches to record 13 points. Their only blemish was when they faced Djanogly in a very close game which ended as a 1-1 draw.
The battle for second place was also very close with Farnborough and Nottingham Emmanuel both finishing with nine points from three victories. However, the girls from Emmanuel had a much better goal difference and were awarded the runners-up medals.
The trophies and medals were presented by Colin Hammond, the Chairman of Nottingham Schools' Football Association.

Manchester Celebrates as the City Wins Two Trophies
The two clubs have endured decades of intense rivalry but Manchester was a city united yesterday. Ear-to-ear grins and more than a few hangovers were much in evidence on both sides of the city’s football divide as the celebrations for the historic double trophies day showed no sign of coming to an end.
Reds fans started their party on Saturday afternoon outside Old Trafford after a Wayne Rooney equalizer secured United the point they needed to win their record-breaking 19th league title. Blues fans gathered two hours later at their Eastlands home after midfielder Yaya Toure helped City to a 1-0 win over Stoke in the FA Cup Final at Wembley. For City it ended a 35-year wait for a trophy and meant both major domestic trophies competitions were taken by England’s north-west metropolis.
And the good times soon spread all over the city as fans partied. United supporter John Corless, 44, from New Moston, said: “There has always been fierce rivalry but it is great for the city. Manchester is the world’s football capital.” And lifelong City fan Bill Edwards, 60, said: “We’ve waited a long, long time but this is just the start of greater things.”
City supporter rock singer Liam Gallagher said after the Cup Final: “It was a great day out, I was very nervous but it’s all come good again. I’ve supported them for 35 years of my life. Come on, City!” And Johnny Marr, former guitarist for The Smiths, took to Twitter to say: “Good times at Wembley. Congratulations to all Mancunians today.”
