St Marys Duo Nominated

St. Mary’s School principal Mark Marando and teacher Carmel Cutri received nominations for the Inspirational Teaching Awards at last Thursday’s assembly for their contribution to the students and the school community. The two crystal awards nominations are among the first of those received for this year’s National Excellence in Teaching Awards (NEiTA) with Australian Scholarships Group (ASG).

Mr. Marando joined St Mary’s School at the start of the year in his first principal position and has shown great interest in initiating and completing new infrastructure and technology projects at the school. His likable nature and caring personality has created a wonderful outlook in students, teachers and the school community.

St. Mary’s Parents and Friends (P&F) chairwoman Sonya Barnett congratulated Mr. Marando and said his award was highly deserved and was another way members of the school could thank him for his hard work and dedication. “St. Mary's School is very lucky to have such a great principal and the improvements around the school and positive attitude to learning was a reflection of his leadership and enthusiasm,” Mrs. Barnett said at the assembly.

Mr. Marando congratulated Ms. Cutri at the assembly and said her organizational skills and terrific work ethic enabled her to find time to develop students to reach their full potential. Ms Cutri is an experienced upper primary teacher at the school and is an inspiring teacher to her students and fellow staff members.

Teachers at the school said students loved her calm nature and enthusiastic ideas which created a fun classroom for her students. The theme of the crystal awards this year is called Teachers Count and it encourages recognition of the important work of inspirational teachers and education leaders by the community.

NEiTA is Australia’s only national, independent community-centered teaching awards program that gives Australian parents, early childhood and school communities and secondary student councils the opportunity to formally thank their hard-working and inspirational teachers, principals and directors.
